Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, Canada – A mold removal company has been hard at work at Lac du Bonnet’s Bonny Vista Lodge this week. The discovery of a serious mold problem at Lac du Bonnet seniors’ home Bonny Vista Lodge has reportedly forced one resident to move out and the rest to deal with what one could only describe as a “mess.”

“My room isn’t so good, especially in the bedroom. They came in Monday morning and they’re going to replace all the windows,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. The mold problem raises questions about how the building was originally constructed, the resident said.

“This building wasn’t insulated properly, they told me — it had no vapour barrier. It’s a beautiful place, but it wasn’t done right. It gives you a funny taste in our mouth just breathing in here.”

A spokesman for Manitoba Housing, which owns Bonny Vista, said the mold was discovered during the renovation of the common area of the building. The building was erected in the 1970s.

“A tenant information session was held Monday morning so the tenants are aware of the problem and the work being done to correct it. Work is being done in small sections, and is carefully sealed/contained so there is minimal exposure during the repairs. Crews will work extended hours to ensure the project is done as quickly as possible — estimated to be within two weeks,” the spokesman said.

Although Manitoba Health told the Leader no mold was found in any tenant suites, that’s clearly not the case after several residents said they have mold growing in their rooms.
