Update: Myrtle Beach Primary School; Mold Problem Being Addressed

The Horry County Schools system is spending about $300,000 to deal with a mold problem at Myrtle Beach Primary School.
School staff first identified mold on the walls of some classrooms earlier this year. The district hired environmental testers, who in November found water-stained ceiling tiles, dust buildup and low levels of mold in the school.
Q: What is Horry County Schools doing to combat mold at Myrtle Beach Primary School?
A: (Horry County Schools Maintenance Director Wayne Smith) Crews will replace carpets with floor tiles throughout the school, put a new roof over the kindergarten wing and replace air ducts in the school’s three portable classrooms.
Q: When will the work be completed?
A: Most of the work on the kindergarten wing roof and floors will be done by Jan. 6, and students will be able to occupy that part of the building when they return after the holiday break. Crews will remove carpet throughout the school in the upcoming months, but a work schedule hasn’t been made.
Q: How much has the mold problem cost?
A: District officials estimate the total cost of testing, cleanup and repairs to be about $300,000.
